Wes Wilder has been the head coach of St Davids football program since its beginning as a junior varsity program in 2000. Under Wilder, who is one of the reaally good guys in the NCISAA, the Warriors made steady progress making their first playoff appearance in 2003 and winning the NCISAA eight man state championship in 2006. The state championship title, a 66-38 win over Word of God, culminated a perfect 11-0 season for the Warriors and featured one of the best offensive lines in NCISAA history. Wilder's coaching staff resembles a mini Riley Hill family reunuin as his top two assistants are his father Frank and his brother Justin.
This years Warrior squad will be in somewhat of a rebuilding mode after losing their starting backfield as well as three starters off the offensive line. However, before counting the Warriors out of this season's race take into consideration that they are benefiting from the products of a strong jayvee program of the past several years moving up to the varsity level as well as a talented quarterback who unbelievingly has not started a varsity game before this season. The quarterback aforementioned is junior Forrest Bramdt, youmger brother of three year graduated starter Bo Brandt, who moves from tight end to the signal callers position. Brandt possesses a very strong arm as evidenced by Coach Wilder's switch to the spread offense the Warriors are running this season. Brandt has already drwn some looks from East Carolina University.
Tailback will be manned by sophomore Raine McMillan, who saw considerable action as a freshman last year. Matthew Comer, yet another sophomore holds down the fullback slot. Brandt's favorite receiver wilol be senior William Brewer, while Stephen Bridgers mans the tight end spot. The interior line will be manned by a trio of juniors in Caleb Lueck, Burgess Coker and Buck Tharrington.
Defensively Bridgers and Jarrett Whitworth man the ends while Brandt, Matthew Comer, Brewer, Bo Stewart and Reid Greenlee will be important factors at linebacker and in the secondary. Junior Anthony Thomas is back as kick return specialist and Forrest Brandt will handle the kicking chores.
This year's Warrior squad is young but talented and will play a lot of underclassmen.
As they gain experience they will be a major factor come playoff time.
