State Championship Saturday

Here are the results from the 2014 NCHSAA State Basketball Championships:

1A GIRLS
Bishop McGuinness 61, Riverside 58

Tessa Johnston's half-court shot at the buzzer lifted the Lady Villains to their 9th straight 1A title. Johnston ended the game with 9 points. Julia Brown led Bishop with 26 points and 7 rebounds and Tia Cappuccio added 11 points. For Riverside, Kayla Jones scored 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. D'aysa Wilson added 15 points.

2A GIRLS
High Point Andrews 57, Bandys 51

After Bandys led 44-37 at the end of the third quarter, T.W Andrews finished the fourth quarter on a 20-7 run to get the win and their first title. Imani Watkins was excellent for Andrews in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points and finished the game with 27 points, earning her the MVP honors.

3A GIRLS
Chapel Hill 69, Hickory 56

Chapell Hill got off to a very fast start and used the play Raziyah Farrington and Catherine Romaine, who scored 22 and 14 points to take the title. The Lady Tigers end 2014 with a perfect season. For Hickory, Sadasia Tipps led the team with 17 points while Yazman Hannah also had 16 points in the game.

4A GIRLS
Myers Park 61 - Southeast Raleigh 46

Myers Park had no trouble handling Southeast Raleigh, as it was the Ryedeiah Rogers show Saturday night in Reynolds. Rogers scored 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Myers Park to a 61-46 win, claiming their first state title. Southeast Raleigh did their best after a slow start but couldn't overcome the size of Myers Park while only shooting 30 percent from the floor.

1A BOYS
Winston Salem Prep 72, East Carteret 71

Kwa'tre Hollingsworth's rebound and put-back basket vaulted Winston-Salem Prep to their 3rd consecutive 1A state championship. Mike Hughes led the Phoenix with 17 points. Hollingsworth scored 12 points. Omar Roseboro and Will Tibbs added 11 points each. For East Carteret, Trevor Willis scored 24 points. Sam Johnson and Jaqcue Brown added 20 and 12 points.


2A BOYS
Kinston 67, North Rowan 57

Kinston and North Rowan certainly battled it out, as it took Brandon Ingram and Andrew Lopez to take over the game for the Vikings. Ingram finished the game with 28 points and 16 rebounds to win MVP honors, while Lopez had 27, as the Vikings used clutch free throw shooting to increase their lead at the end of the game and take home their third straight 2-A state championship. Jalen Sanders and North Rowan gave it everything they had, as Sanders scored 19 points and earned Most Outstanding Player for his team.

3A BOYS
Freedom 59, Hunt 57

Kasen Wilson hit the game winning jumper with two seconds to go in the game and giving Freedom, who never led in the game, a 3A State Championship. Wilson finished with 12 points. The Patriots were led by Chris Bridges, who had 19 points. Khris Logan and Gabe Logan added 11 points in the game. For Hunt, it was Josh Willingham who led the way with 16 points in the game. Justin Jefferson and Dexter Wright added 11 points.

4A BOYS
Apex 62, Lake Norman 59

Apex used a strong defensive strategy in the second half, as Ian Boyd was relentless on both sides of the court in the second half, scoring 25 points in the game, as Apex secured the 4A state championship. The game went back and forth throughout, with neither team wanting to lose. However, Apex made key plays down the road to get the narrow win, especially with a team that started 2-4 on the season.
